News from members of 1st Lye and 1st Kidderminster in their planning, fund-raising and experience of the Pennine Way Challenge 2012.

Pennine Way Preperation Camp

The Seniors for the Pennine Way Preperation Camp - Forde Mackenzie. Ollie Reah, Alex Surridge, James Phillips, James Painter, Craig Bateman, Dan Pemberton and Dylan Evan - spent the weekend at Milton Hall (the home of 1st Kidderminster) and walking over the Clent hills. It wasn't all work, we had the laptops out for games and went to see Johnny English at the cinema. The main purpose was to get ready for the challenge next year and experience walking over a distance and up and down hills with small rucksacks. We looked at what we will be taking and what not to take. We also discussed the route and distances involved.

Welcome to the Pennine Way Blog

In 2012 members of the 1st Kidderminster and 1st Lye companies will be embarking on a walk along the Pennine Way in Northern England. This blog will serve as a way for those involved to keep parents and others up-to-date with the preperations, training, fund-raising and eventual experience of their Pennine Way Challenge. Below is a quote from the 1st Lye newsletter written by Graham Knight about the challenge.

"The Company Section - James, Dylan and Daniel - on July 21st to 28th 2012 will be walking some of the Pennine Way but certainly not all 268 miles of it. We will be walking through the Lake District section.
Like Scotland it will take a lot of planning and fundraising, but unlike Scotland we will not be carrying rucksacks and walking more than 10 miles a day (lessons learnt from the West Highland Way). This will be a joint venture with 1st Kidderminster BB. Each member will have their own BB top like Scotland 2009.
It seems a long time away but we need to plan in this session the route and fundraising events and in the 2011 to 2012 session the fundraising events need to take place as do the practice walks.
It's only 21 months away!!"
