The second day

Today we planned to walk from Balmaha to Inverarnan, but due to inclement and adverse weather conditions which became apparent from early morning hours, we were unable to walk, and instead set up camp at our next camp site, took some rest and prepared for the following day.

Onwards & Upwards

Today we drove up in the minibus, including many stops at services, to the Church in Airdrie, the home of Tom Russell's former company; there we met members of their battalion including their Battalion President whom from which we received a very warm welcome. Some of the members of the church we're also they're to welcome us and show us about. The facilities here are really good. There is a room full of computers which are being extensively used for music :) and also a chill-out room with a huge TV!

We then sent some of the staff to get some fooooood smiley Ranging from chips to pizzas and was thoroughly enjoyed by all after a long day of travelling!

Later there were various activities, ranging from football and pooll to using the church's computers room. Innit! wink

Planning to get up nice and early (great... surprise) tommorow and head over to the start of the walk at Milngavie! From there we'll kit up with our rucksacks and boots and start! Lets just hope we have some nice sun as the weatherman says we will!

We'll try and do a blog each day, but as we're going to be in rural areas - signal could limit us and therefore you'll just have to wait and see what we've been up to!

The Walk Approaches...

Tomorrow we will all be heading down to Glasgow, in preparation for begining the walk the next Saturday morning. We aim to try and update this blog each night of the walk with diary-like entries, and possibly photos, where mobile signal permits us (remember it will be the Scottish highlands!).

First Practice Walk - Clent Hills

On Friday 29th May Seniors and Officers involved in the West Highland Way spent the Morning on a ~10 mile practice walk with the intention of carrying as much as possible to what they will be carrying on the actual walk. This was done in the Clent Hills, and later followed by a large number of chip butties being ordered from a nearby pub.

We walked today from Kidderminster to Lye, just under 10 miles in 3 hours. The weather was once again dry and plenty of sunshine. We arrived at Lye with our feet aching and soon tucked into bacon and sausage sandwiches. There was a number of who people come along to the coffee morning. The amount raised today was about £400.yes

Second Fundrasing Walk

Fundraising has gone really well.  A number of donations from various sources have pushed the present total above a thousand pounds. Its been encouraging to see the support for the walk and the lads.

This Saturday 14th March 2009 we will walk from Kidderminster to Lye for the coffee morning being held at Lye United Church, just hope that the weather stays good.

First Fundrasing Walk completed

The first walk went well, from Lye to Kidderminster which is 9 miles in 3 hours. We raised about £400 which has paid for alot of the equipement. We have got the tents and we need to buy other items and there will be running costs.

Well done lads, a great start, lets keep it up.
